Tang Dynasty vs. Albion Red [Score 6:0, Kati(20'), Long(35'), Wang Wetao(60'), Ning(65'), Robin(75'), Harris(85')] Game Report Sunday, 05/04, Tang Dynasty finished its season with a convincible victory of 6:0 over Albion Red. We created tons of opportunities. Kati scored our 1st goal at a small angle, assisted by Yu Long. 10 minutes before the end of 1st half, Yu Long received a pass from Kati and shot the ball into the net. We led 2:0 to enter the 2nd half. Wang Wentao extended our lead to 3:0 at the 60 minute. The ball bounced into the net after being initially blocked by their goalkeeper. Wang Wentao also had two assists later. One conducted a goal made by Yu Ning, the other finished by Robin. By the end of the game, Harris scored on a corner kick served by Yu Ning. 6:0 is our biggest victory this season. What a job. Tang Dynasty vs. Pars [Score 1:1, Robin (15') ] Game Report Sunday, 04/27, Pars tied Tang Dynasty at 1:1. Tang Dynasty played a great first half. Robin scored with a power shot, courtesy of Harris’ assist. Yu Ning had an open net opportunity. Unfortunately, his shot went high. Yu Long had a couple of chances when facing their goalie, but couldn’t finish. We organized our offense very well, just were not lucky to expand the lead. Near the end of the 1st half, Pars caught one of our mistakes, tied the game. Apparently, we were not satisfied with a tie game. We were too impatient to set up effective offenses. We easily lost possessions of the ball by making many long and straight passes. On the other hand, Pars played smart defense with counterattacks. We barely had any scoring opportunities. The only chance we had was Kati’s power shot nearly the end of the game. The ball hit Yu Long’s leg and bounced out. We played a poor 2nd half. The game was tied at 1:1. Tang Dynasty vs. Arsenal [Score 2:4, Kati (20), Long (35') ] Game Report Sunday, 04/13, Tang Dynasty was defeated 2:4 by Arsenal. The game was tied at 2:2 in the 1st half. Arsenal scored first with a swirl shot outside our box. 10 minutes later, Kati caught a loose ball at the right flank. His float shot hit the post and bounced into the net. We tied the game. Arsenal kept their pace and organized offense very well. We lost our second goal when our goalkeeper was not able to deny a low ball from small angle. We trailed again. However, we had an answer immediately. Wang Wentao set up a fast break. Yu Long received the pass and sent the ball into the net when their goalkeeper stepped up. Kati had another opportunity when received the ball from Nguyen, but he was whistled for offside. We had more chances than Arsenal in the first half. 2nd half, Arsenal kept pressure us and we were not able to setup good offense. They didn’t have a good opportunity until the 25th minute of the 2nd half. That was a free kick. The ball was barely touch by their play’s head and redirected into the net. That was unfortunate. After that, Arsenal played solid defense to hold their lead. We lost our 4th goal when time was up. We finally lost 2:4, but it was a pretty good game. Tang Dynasty vs. ASC Originals [Score 4:2, Harris (25') Robin (35') Long (65') Wang Wentao (80')] Game Report Sunday, 04/06, Tang Dynasty defeated ASC Originals 4:2. ASC is an experienced team with great skills. They controlled the ball very well and set up offense with short passes. However, they are aged and lack of speed. ASC had more possessions than us until Harris scored directly in a corner kick. The ball went into the net in a beautiful arc. 10 minutes later, Robin scored again with another unbelievable shot. He floated the ball from a small angle and the ball went in over their keeper’s head. We completed the 1st half with a 2:0 lead. ASC substituted two new players in the 2nd half. They brought us some problems. At the 20 minute, a guy, who was not marked, scored on a corner kick. We lost goals on corner kicks in two consecutive games. 10 minutes later, we had an answer, Yu Long received a pass from Yu Ning. He shot the ball into the net when facing their goalkeeper. We extended our lead to 3:1. ASC scored their 2nd goal on a free kick. They started a play when we were organizing the wall. Their forward received the pass and scored easily. We argued with the referee since they started without the whistle blew, but didn’t get acknowledgement. It became a 3:2 game. Wang Wetao secured our victory 5 minutes before the game ended, assisted by Liang Yu. Wentao noticed their goalkeeper stepping out the goal area. He floated the ball in over the heads of their goalkeeper and the last defender. We won 4:2. Tang Dynasty vs. West Houston [Score 4:4, Boerkati (30',65') Long (35') Wang Wentao (60')] Game Report Sunday, 03/30, West Houston overcame a 2-goal deficit in the last 25 minutes to secure a tied game at 4:4. The game was intensive. West Houston scored first with a free kick. The ball went through our wall and rushed into the dead corner. At the 25 minute, Kati tied the game with a powerful shot, assisted by Howard. 5 minutes later, we made a couple short passes in their box. Yu Long sent the ball into the net after the ball was soft touched by Yu Bo. We had a 2:1 lead to enter the 2nd half. West Houston did great team works. They organized several quality offenses. They tied the game again when one of their players was uncovered. A little mistake would cost a goal. However, we gave them an immediate answer. Yu Long sent a long pass from left frank. Wang Wentao received the ball and stepped into their box. He gave us a lead again. Five minutes later, we had a free kick in the upper midfield. Harris sent an accurate pass to Kati, who scored his 2nd goal when facing their keeper alone. We led 4:2 with 25 minutes to go. We started to focus on defense. We thought we were winning this one. Unfortunately, anything could happen in soccer games. West Houston got a penalty kick when there was just a little contact between Robin and their player. They were back to 3:4. They scored their last goal on a corner kick. That guy, was not covered, headed the ball in. Tran unintentionally touched it but couldn’t deny it. We had our last chance too. Wang Wentao face their goalkeeper a lone at the last minute, but his shot was blocked. Final score is 4:4 though we didn’t believe it. Tang Dynasty vs. Albion Red [Score 4:0, Long (5, 15', 65', 75')] Game Report Sunday, 03/16, Tang Dynasty had its largest win of the season, 4:0, against Albion Red. Two penalty kicks at the beginning of the game gave us 2:0 early lead. At the 5th minute, Albion Red had a handball in the box. Yu Long served the penalty and shot the ball to the side net. 10 minutes later, Albion’s goalkeeper tripped down Yu Long when fighting for a loss ball. Another penalty! Yu Long served again and score the old fashion way. We led 2:0 in the 1st fifteen minutes. We played solid defense and totally controlled the game. We had several scoring opportunities but couldn’t conduct. Liang Yu shot the crossbar once. Howard and Yu Bo missed a couple long shots. Albion Red started to fight back at the 2nd half. Our defense was still not allowing any opportunities for them. At the 20 minutes of the 2nd half. Yu Ning cleared Albion Red’s corner kick. Yu Long caught the ball in the midfield. He finished his hat trick after breaking through the last defender with his speed. Albion Red lost their confidence. The game became an entertainment. Yu Long scored his 4th goal with a powerful shot, assisted by Robin. Feng Qiyu and Harris also had chances to score, but were not able to expand our lead. We won 4:0. Tang Dynasty vs. ASC Originals [Score 3:0, Harris (25') Long (60') Robin (70')] Game Report Sunday, 03/02, Tang Dynasty snapped two games losing streak by winning 3:0 against ASC originals. We completely controlled the game. ASC didn’t have any chances. Harris scored our first goal by shooting a low ball to the corner, assisted by Boerkati. Yu Long received a beautiful pass from Yu Bo. He faced goalie alone but didn’t finish it. The shot was block by their goalkeeper. We had 1:0 lead to enter the 2nd half. We started to focus on defense. Our solid defense made the game much easier. Our counterattacks brought our rival lots of troubles. At the 15 minutes of the 2nd half, Yu Long got a pass from Robin. He broke through the defense line and extended our lead to 2:0. 10 minutes later, Howard sent a long pass from midfield. Robin, who was wide open, caught the ball and shot it to the dead corner with full confidence. We created at least 7 golden opportunities, such as Yu Bo’s header, Yu Ning’s floater. 3:0 tied our biggest win of the season. Tang Dynasty vs. West Houston [Score 1:3, Nguyen (20')] Game Report Sunday, 2/23, Tang Dynasty lost 1:3 to the 10 men West Houston. One of the West Houston players was ejected at the 25th minute of 1st half, while Tang Dynasty led 1:0. It didn’t show any advantage for us though we have one more player through the entire game. At the 20th minute, Nguyen received a cross from left flank by Yu Long. His powerful shot gave their keeper no chance. We scored first. 10 minutes later, West Houston had a corner kick. They scored with a long shot after the ball was cleared at the first time. The game tied 1:1 to enter the 2nd half. West Houston controlled the midfield. We made a couple of mistakes. One of their forwards scored with a wide-open shot to give them 2:1 lead. We had several chances to tie the game, but failed to finish. Yu Long had a shot blocked by their keeper. Chen Ke followed up but called for offside. Robin had a chance to face their keeper one on one, but lost his feet. West Houston scored their 3rd goal on a throw-in. Their player headed the ball in when he was not well covered. A frustrated game for us, had one man and one goal advantage, but collapsed at 1:3. Tang Dynasty vs. Celtic Bhoys [Score 0:1] Game Report Sunday, 02/16, Tang Dynasty had its 2nd loss of the season, 0:1 to Celtic Bhoys. It was a windy 40s degree morning. Players were freezing. However, the competition was red hot. Celtic is leading our division. They are skillful, strong, and fast. The 1st half was 50-50. We took advantage of the wind. Celtic had difficulties to set up offenses against the wind. At the 35 minute, Yu Long’s header was just wide after Harris served a corner kick. Celtic had a couple of opportunities as well, but saved by our defenders or goalkeeper. The 2nd half, Celtic started to control the game. Our goalkeeper, Sun Wei, denied most of their power shots. Around the 20 minute of the 2nd half, Yu Long had another golden opportunity. He dribbled and passed all Celtic defenders. Unfortunately, his final shot was touched by the goalkeeper and rolled out of bound. If it was a goal, the outcome of the game might be different. Celtic survived and scored immediately in return. Its forward made a beautiful header after the ball was crossed from our right flank. Suddenly, we trailed 0:1. We tried to go back to the game, but never had a good chance since then. Celtic had some opportunities instead. Again, denied by our goalkeeper, whose efforts were tremendous. We finally lost 0:1. Tang Dynasty vs. QFC Tempest [Score 1:1, Long(30')] Game Report - Sunday, 02/02, this game was not played the full duration due to fighting. The league orders the game to stand as it played, according to the latest HFA web site update. Yu Long scored the only goal. Tang Dynasty vs. United Wednesdays [Score 2:0, Wang Wentao(60') Yu Long(75')] Game Report - Sunday, 01/19, Tang Dynasty played one of its best game of the season. We won 2:0 against United Wednesdays, the team we lost 0:3 in the 1st round. The 1st half was quiet. Neither team had good opportunities. Most of time, the ball was in the midfield. We broke through their defense line several times, but nobody rushed to the middle when the ball was crossed. The 2nd half, we became dominate. Our counterattacks brought them lots of problems. Wang Wentao made two beautiful headers. One was a little bit high, the other was our 1st goal. That was the 15th minute of the 2nd half. Wentao had possession in the midfield, made a diagonal pass to Yu Long on the left. Yu Long caught the ball and swung it to the middle. Wentao scored with a bounced header. We led 1:0. 15 minutes later, Yu Long possessed a punt by our goalkeeper. He ran straightforward about 40 yards into the penalty area, left all their defenders in behind. Their goalkeeper denied his first shot. But he rebounded, sent the ball to the open net, 2:0. In the late 2nd half, United Wednesdays lost their confidence. We had some more chances, but couldn’t finish. Feng Qiyu, Yu Bo and Robin all had scoring opportunities. The shots were wide, high or blocked. We didn’t expand the lead and won 2:0. Tang Dynasty vs. International United II[Score 3:2, Yu Long (20', 30') Boerkati(70')] Game Report - Sunday, 01/05, league play resumes after Christmas break. Tang Dynasty had its 2nd meeting with International United 2, who had a 2:2 tie with us in the 1st round. We only had 13 players and most of us were not in good shape after the long break. However, we still controlled the game. We created dozens of scoring opportunities. At the 20th minutes, Yu Long intercepted a bad goal kicked ball and powered it into the net. 10 minutes later, Wang Wentao dribbled through their defender and sent a short pass to Yu Long, who scored his 2nd goal easily, an unselfish play by Wentao. Robin had a couple of opportunities, too. One was just wide when shooting to an open net, the other hit the cross bar. Yu Ning also had a counterattack and faced their goalie alone. He didn’t shoot but passed to Robin. Unfortunately, their goalkeeper intercepted the ball. International United II had a fast forward who had several fast break chances, but were destroyed by our even faster defender Sun Wei. We played a fantastic first half and led 2:0. We didn’t play a good 2nd half. We might be too happy about our performance in the 1st half. Sun Wei was switched to the goalkeeper position and nobody could stick on their fast forward. At the 20th minute, they set up a fast break. That striker ran over all of our defenders and scored in front of our goalkeeper, 2:1. 5 minutes later, Wang Wentao finished his 2nd assist. Boerkati received his soft touched ball and score after passing their goalkeeper. We led 3:1. Since we only had 2 bench players, our substitutions were not managed very well. Players had to switch positions accordingly. The result was that players started to loose their positions. We lost our 2nd goal on a corner kick. Fortunately, no time left for them. We won 3:2. Tang Dynasty vs. Cletic Bhoys [Score 2:2, Wang Wentao (10') Yu Long (40')] Game Report - Sunday, 12/08, Tang Dynasty faced the current No.1 of div. 3A, Celtic Bhoys. Most of our student players didn’t present due to finals of the semester. Sun Wei, our goalkeeper of the 2nd half, was definitely the MVP of the game. His tremendous efforts saved us at least three goals. Celtic showed great ball handling skills and speed. Their offenses were one after another. We did expect their offensive ability. We played solid defense and didn’t give them any good chances at the beginning of the game. On the other hand, our counterattacks worked very well. At the 10th minute, Yu Long floated an accurate high cross to the middle from left flank. Wang Wentao, who was wide open, caught the ball with his chest. He stepped forward and sent the ball into the net. We led 1:0. Celtic showed great patience. They totally controlled the midfield. At the 20th minute, one of their forward received the ball in the box, shot at a small angle. Unfortunately, our keeper failed to deny it. The game tied at 1:1. We still focused on defense with counterattack. Wang Wentao had another chance when facing their goalie alone, but shot right onto the keeper’s legs and the ball bounced out. At the 30th minute, Celtic made a beautiful cross from the right flank, the ball passed our defenders and goalkeeper. Their intended forward kicked the ball directly into the net. Suddenly we trail 1:2. At the 40th minute, Celtic defenders made a mistake. Yu Long caught the loose ball and shot it to the dead corner. We tied at 2:2 to enter the second half. The 2nd half was all of Sun Wei’s show, who played as goalkeeper. Obviously, Celtic was not happy about a tie game. They kept high pressure on us. We didn’t have enough backup players to keep our stamina, but they did. Their midfielders’ one-on-one abilities are much better than ours. We couldn’t well control the ball to organize effective offenses. We had a couple of fastbreak opportunities but couldn’t finish successfully. Celtic made several powerful shots, but all denied by Sun Wei or our defenders. Finally, the referee blew the whistle and the game tied at 2:2. Tang Dynasty vs. Pars [Score 4:2, Yu Long(48', 80') Harris (65') Nguyen (70')] Game Report - Sunday, 11/24, Tang Dynasty resumed its league play after weeks of rainouts. We didn’t play well in the 1st half. We made many long passes but away off the target. We dribbled too much and frequently lost possessions. Our defenders didn’t mark their forwards and paid for it at the 30th minute. One of Pars forwards got the ball and ran straight into our goal area. He scored without any interruptions. We trailed by 1 goal after the 1st half. We discussed the way we played during the break. We decided to make short and easy passes and not to dribble too much. We became a different team to enter the 2nd half. At the 3rd minute, Yu Long received a short pass from Harris, dribble through the last defender, tied the game by shooting the ball to the dead corner. 3 minutes later, Pars regained the lead by an unbelievable shot. Their forward, who scored the 1st goal, made a heavy shot 30 yards away for the goal. 1:2, we trailed again. We never lost our confidence to come back. At the 20th minutes, Yu Long broke through their defense line from the right side and crossed the ball to the middle. Harris received the ball and tied the game one more time, 2:2. At the 25th minute, Yu Long chipped the ball over their defender to Nguyen, who was running like a horse. Nguyen chipped the ball again, but over the goalie’s head. The goalie tried to go back to punch the ball out, but failed. We had our first lead of the game, 3:2. 10 minutes later, we had a free kick, Liang Yu set up a fast start with Yu Long, who caught the ball and shot it into the right corner. The goalie had no reaction at all. It was so fast. We secured the victory at 4:2. Robin, Chen Ke, and Wang Wentao had scoring opportunities as well. We played a fantastic 2nd half. Tang Dynasty vs. HC Forest (Challenge Cup) [Score 2:4, Wang Wentao(43') Boerkati(65')] Game Report - Saturday, 11/16, Tang Dynasty played HFA Challenge Cup vs. HC Forest, a division 1 team. It was so difficult for us to play against a team that is 3-level higher. HC Forest players are tall, strong, skillful and fast. They had advantages on all categories. However, we have never given up though we trailed almost every minute of the game. They scored at the 3rd minute after breaking through our defense from the left side. Our keeper, Boerkati blocked the first shot but couldn’t deny the follow-up. 10 minutes later, they broke our defense again from the left and crossed the ball to the middle, an unmarked forward easily sent the ball into the net. The 3rd goal they scored was just a duplicate of the 2nd, but from right side. At the end of the 1st half, Wang Wentao had a chance to intercept the ball, and chipped over their goalkeeper to score our 1st goal. In the 2nd half, Sun Wei played goalkeeper and Boerkati went to the forward position. He almost scored when he first touched the ball, just a little bit wide. Around the 30th minute, Yu Bo passed a high ball to the penalty area, their goalkeeper failed to catch it and Boerkati shot the loose ball into the net, 2:3. Unfortunately, HC Forest scored a penalty kick right after. Yu Long served a free kick that was reflected by the wall and just went wide. That’s the final chance we had. Final score is 2:4. We were not so frustrated because that was the best we can do. Tang Dynasty vs. QFC Tempest [Score 3:0, Nguyen(5',40') Chen Ke(60')] Game Report - Sunday, 10/13, Tang Dynasty won its 2nd game of the season. We switched several players’ positions. Sun Wei and Howard played stopper and sweeper since the absence of other three center defenders. Boerkati was our goalkeeper. Robin and Yu Long were our primary forwards. Just the 5th minute of starting time. Yu Long got a loose ball and passed it back to Nguyen, who scored with a power shot outside penalty box. 1:0, we had an early lead. Our offense continued to pressure Tempests’ defense line. Wang Wentao had a header on corner kick saved by their goalkeeper. Yu Long had broken up their whole defense line but shot the ball a little bit far away and the ball went high. Our defense was solid. Xiao Jia and Sun Wei had made a couple of saves when we were in danger. At the 40th minute of the 1st half, Robin broke up their defense again and made a beautiful pass to Nguyen. Nguyen caught the ball and scored his 2nd goal with full confidence. In the 2nd half, Tempest tried to fight back but barely had a chance. Our defense was still perfect. Our offense kept going. Wang Wetao had sent a pass to Nguyen, who just missed it in front the goal. At the 30th minute of 2nd half. Yu Bo sent a high ball to Chen Ke. Chen Ke chested down and shot a low ball into the net. We secured the victory at 3:0. Tang Dynasty vs. United Wednesdays [Score 0:3] Game Report - Sunday 10/06, Tang Dynasty was defeated the first time this season. The final score, 0:3, looks so disappointed, but it was a close match. Our team used to have problems at 1PM game. It didn’t change in the new season, either. The 90s degree temperature made our players tired quickly. We made several early substitutions to keep team overall stamina. We played super defense and didn’t give our rival any good chances. Around 35th minute of the 1st half, United Wednesdays were out of gas too. We started to fight back. Wang Wentao sent an accurate long pass to Robin. Their goalkeeper came out but didn’t catch the ball. He had no other choices but grabbed Robin’s arm. Penalty! Unfortunately, Wang Wentao’s low and heavy shot hit the post and bounced out. Bad luck started here. The first half was 0:0. In the halftime, we were not happy about a tied game. We thought United Wednesdays wasted most of energy in the 1st half. We didn’t change our strategy to defense with counterattack. At the beginning of the 2nd half, our rival still ran like horses. Their midfielders controlled the ball very well. At 20th minute, they had a free kick. The crossed ball barely touched one of their players’ head but rolled into the net. 0:1. In 10 minutes, we lost our 2nd goal. Our keeper, Sun Wei tried to start a fast break but punted the ball right on the back of their guy. The rebound was caught by their player, an easy one for them. Actually, Sun Wei did a wonderful job except for this one, including a world-class diving save of a heavy bomber. We lost our 3rd goal around 35th minute when our players lost confidence to come back. Tang Dynasty vs. Arsenal FC [Score 2:1, Boerkati(35') Wang Wetao(60')] Game Report - Sunday 9/29,Tang Dynasty had its first win of the season. Arsenal is an American team. They are tall, strong, and run a lot. Due to late coming of several our players, we didn't even have time to set up our starting lineup. This is one of the reasons that caused losing a goal at 3rd minute. That was a corner kick. One of uncovered Arsenals headed in easily. The early trail didn't make us panic. We organized a few quality offense instead. Robin received a low pass from Yu Long and shot the ball in face of their goalie. But it is a little bit soft. One of their defenders cleared it right before it passed the goal line. At the 20th minute, Yu Long sent another ball just like the previous one, Boerkati finished it like a heavy bomber. The game tied 1:1. At the 30th minute, Wang Wentao and Yu Ning set up a beautiful counter-offside. Wentao sent the ball into the net when facing their goalie. 2:1, we had a lead into 2nd half. At the halftime, all players discussed the strategy to secure the lead in the 2nd half. We decided to play defense with counter-attack. All of our midfielders and defenders stayed in our half field most of time during the 2nd half. Arsenals dominated possessions and made lots of shots, but none of those was really close to a goal. Instead, we had several chances to extend the lead. Boerkati, the youngest player in our team, still ran like a horse in the 2nd half, he shot a high ball when their keeper came out, but a little bit wide. He made another shot in the air crossed by Wang Wentao but just high. A free kick served by Yu Long was barely saved by their keeper. Unfortunately, we didn't get the rebound. The victory is so important to us because we used to have problems at early 2nd half. Tang Dynasty vs. International United 2 [Score 2:2, Robin(35') Long(60')] Game Report - Sunday 09/22, Tang Dynasty tied its first season game at 2:2. at the 30th minute of the 1st half, Robin headed the ball into the net after receiving a beautiful cross from Liang Yu at the right corner. Tang Dynasty led 1:0 to the 2nd half. IU2 started to fight back then, a midfielder sent a high ball to an uncovered forward who was just inside the penalty area. Our keeper, Sun Wei decided to go out but didn't punch the ball out. That forward shot the ball to the open net and tied the game. Within 10 minutes, another forward controlled the ball at penalty arc. Tran came up to attack him, that forward won the fight after the ball bounced between legs and gave them a 2:1 lead. Around the 30th minute of 2nd half, Yu Long intercepted the ball in the midfield and ran all the way to their penalty area, passed the last defender, shot a low ball to the net. Final score 2:2. Tang Dynasty had at least 5 golden opportunities when faced their goalie alone but couldn't finish. Tang Dynasty vs. Texas A&M [Score 3:1, Wang Wentao(20') Boerkati(30') Long(60')] Game Report - Tang Dynasty soccer team visited College Station on Saturday, 8/24/2002. Texas A&M Chinese soccer team hosted a friendly game at 5:30pm. Both teams were well-prepared and showed great sportsmanship. At the 20th minute of the 1st half, Wang Wentao scored a beatiful header from corner kick served by Yu Ning. 10 minutes later, Boerkati scored our second goal after receiving a loose ball in chaos. In the 2nd half, after serveral one touch passes, Yu Long sent the ball to the net easily. During last minutes, Texas A&M had a chance of penalty kick and got 1 point back. Final score, 3:1, Tang Dynasty won. |
